Author: Frances Armstrong Boyd
Average review score:

A great book for high intermediate and advanced students.
The mixture of case study presented in the context of a ESL book works out to be a great tandem in this book. I highly recomend this book to anyone who is teaching advanced students interested in learning English in a business context. Unfourtunately the book canot be purchased here with the cassette. Too bad becuase I believe it is the keystone to the sucess of the this particular book.

The Maximum Surveillance Society: The Rise of Cctv
Published in Hardcover by Berg Pub Ltd (September, 1999)
Authors: Clive Norris and Gary Armstrong
Average review score:

the future of policing and civil liberties in america?
This is a brilliant discussion of electronic surveillance in England, where cameras abound and few citizens pass through public space without being watched. The authors pay particular attention to race and gender issues, showing how young men, and young black men in particular, are the object of greatest suspicion. Anyone who is interested in policing or civil liberties issues would do well to pay attention to this important book. After Sept. 11, some of these once unthinkable surveillance policies may become reality in the US.

My Life on the Plains: Or Personal Experiences With the Indians
Published in Paperback by Univ of Oklahoma Pr (Trd) (February, 1977)
Author: George Armstrong Custer
Average review score:

My life with this book
Wow, all I can is wow. This is a very interesting read. What a great way to see how life was out on the plains and during the war. Also, it's very trippy to read all about what Custer thought of "Indians" and the views that he held for them.

What really got me was the reality of this book. Getting an intimate look at the life of not only Custer's, but the soldiers and scouts that he commanded and worked with.

Very good and easy read. Custer does like to go off and get very wordy and talkative about subject matter that must have been important back in the 1870's. Still, it does not detract from the book, but only makes it that much more interesting.

Pick this one up.

Navajo Long Walk
Published in Paperback by Roberts Rinehart Pub (May, 1994)
Author: Nancy Armstrong
Average review score:

This is a good book, and I never wanted to put it down.
I think this book is a good book to read because it gives a lot of information about the Navajo way of life. I also liked it because it makes you want to know what is going to happen to Kee and his family. They are captured by the U.S. government and made to walk out of their sacred land to a fort controlled by the government. They have to do many things differently. They have to build new homes and grow crops from a place that does not supply the right materials for them. Kee learns many things on the walk and at the fort. You will never forget it once you've read it. And if you read it, you will find out if Kee's family will be free. By David Umphres, 5th grade

Authors: Allen Sperry, John Coburn, and Armstrong Sperry
Average review score:

I live in Manhattan and find this book indispensable
I hope they keep updating this little gem I discovered one day at a local bookseller. I was looking for a spectacular way to make my new wife's birthday special, and this handy guide provided me with ALL the answers. I live in Manhattan and find its hotels to make up an important part of its eclectic culture. Sperry has pointed me to some wonderful small (and not so small) hotels that I've walked by a dozen times and never knew existed. A real treat . . . highly recommended.

A Good Primer on Nonviolence and Objectivity to War
This nice collection of articles, essays and pamphlets is a must for any High School or College course regarding Peace, Conflict Resolution, Political Structure, and War.
